Thank you for participating in the 2026 Sonata Contest
The Sonata Contest was created by members of the Sante Fe Music Teachers Association for students in Santa Fe and Los Alamos. There are 10 levels that students can enter, and all sonatas and sonatinas are set for each level. This competition is open to all pianists whose teachers are a member of LAMTA/SFMTA. Students of non-members can enter for an extra fee.
2026 Contest Information Date: February 21st, 2026, exact times will be announced after registration closes. Location: Held at the studio of Dr. Patti Wood, Santa Fe, NM. (Address provided after registration) Registration: opens Dec 15th, 2025, and closes January 11th, 2026, found at the button below. Please submit one form PER student! Registration fee: $30 per student of member teachers/$50 per student of non-member teachers Payment information:
Teachers will consolidate all of their student registration fees into one check and write it out to SFMTA.

Winners Recital: All 1st place winners of each level will be invited to play as guest artists in the LAMTA February Musicale at Fuller Lodge, on Sunday February 22nd, 2026.

Rules
Students of teachers who are members in good standing of State and Local (Los Alamos and Santa Fe) chapters of the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico (PMTNM) are eligible to enter.
Students of teachers who are not a part of the local or state chapters may enter for an extra fee, please above for more details.
The contest is intended for pre-college piano students.
Each student may only enter one level.
First place winners of a level must advance to the next level the following year.
All music must be memorized and performed without repeats.
All entrants must bring a score for the judges. Photocopies are not allowed and students will be disqualified.
If you have purchased a score online and have printed it at home, you must sign a MTNA waiver.
Any edition of the music set for each level may be used.
All entrants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Winners of each category will be invited to perform as guest artists in the LAMTA Musicale. It is the discretion of the Sonata Contest committee to invite 2nd place winners to perform if time permits. More information will come soon.
